Our History
Our history begins in 1981, with the creation of the Suicide Information and Education Centre (SIEC). SIEC’s primary mandate was to create a specialized library. A year later, Suicide Prevention Training Programs (SPTP) was added to begin training community members, professionals and caregivers across Alberta in suicide prevention. In 2005, SIEC and SPTP incorporated under a new name: Centre for Suicide Prevention (CSP). As a registered charity, CSP carries the provincial mandate to provide information, research resources, and education to prevent suicide.
